John Daly eyes PGA Tour card for the 2013 golf season
The two-time major winner John Daly is looking forward to make a strong comeback on the PGA Tour in order to reclaim the full-time PGA Tour card for the 2013 golf season.
Meanwhile, when the 14-time major winner Tiger Woods missed the cut at the Greenbrier Classic last week, Daly shared the 12th spot on the leaderboard after recording an impressive 5-under par 65, his best score for a round since 2010.
“My game's coming around. It was nice to have a good Sunday like this,” he said.
He is now scheduled to participate in the John Deere Classic, slated to start from Thursday, July 12, 2012.
He said that his game is getting better each day, especially after he changed from putting grip to normal grip a few months ago.
“My confidence is better now, ever since I changed my putting grip to a normal grip,” he said. “I’ve been putting a lot better. I have been hitting the ball well all year. It’s a good confidence booster for me going into John Deere”.
He is currently playing the PGA Tour season on a sponsor exemption and is hoping to pick up some pace in the season-ending tournaments.
So far, he has succeeded in making $117,396 and ranks 159th in the FedEx Cup standings. Therefore, he still needs to move 34 positions up in order to get a berth in the PGA Tour playoffs, where he will contend for the PGA Tour card once again in his career.
The other way around it is to record a victory till the end of the season to get a two-year exemption on the tour.
According to the golf commentators, Daly has improved to a great extent in the past few months, especially on the European Tour. However, a tough routine and excessive travelling can make things worse for him.
He himself admitted this fact that playing on both the tours makes him feel tired sometimes.
"My goal is to get my U.S. card back,” Daly said. “I’m looking forward to being 50 and playing the senior tour. I’m enjoying the European Tour, but the travel is killing my body. I love the guys there, they’re great. It’s a great tour. But it’s tough. If
I have to keep doing it, I’ll do it”.
