John Daly finds himself in a tough situation
The veteran John Daly found himself in troubled waters suddenly after two poor rounds at Shriners Hospital for Children Open. Daly is currently 137th on the money earned list and he needs to be inside the top 125 if he has to secure the tour card
for the next season.
Daly started off well in Las Vegas. He opened up with rounds of 69 and 63 on the first two days. However, on Saturday, the skies turned their back on the veteran, who shot the worst round of 86, in five years.
This was really a shocking performance from John, who had the difference of 23 strokes between the two days. It is unbelievable to see these stats.
Daly still has the sponsor’s exemption for the next two tournaments but he really needs to shed this performance from his shoulders and look towards the future.
The question is, was there an injury which emerged on Saturday or did the senior pro quit after the first six holes?
Daly parred the first hole but then went on to score double-quad-bogey-bogey-bogey. He was already 9-over after the first six holes. Did he quit or was there an injury is yet to be determined?
Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure that Daly did have some sort of a problem.
"No, I was just hoping I would stop the bleeding,'' he said afterwards. “I can't remember a time when I had a stretch of so many bad holes where I hit a couple bad shots but didn't really hit that many bad shots.”
On Saturday, Daly’s game was in bits and pieces nothing was going his way.
"This course, everybody shoots it low, but there's times where nothing just goes right. I short-sided myself all day. If I missed a green, I had the most impossible chips," he stated.
He added, "I couldn't make a four-footer today, and I had the lefts going, which usually if I miss the ball, it's right, so that confused me a little bit".
Obviously Daly must have been distraught, devastated and crushed in to pieces after such a tournament.
However, that was just one bad round which was followed by a 77 on Sunday. Daly must forget this tournament as soon as he can, so that he is able to concentrate on the upcoming events.
It would be certainly difficult for Daly to overcome this but he should be able to. After all, he is a professional golfer. These sorts of things happen in a professional sportsman’s life.
Sometimes it is just not your day no matter what. What really matters is that the player should not think too much over such performances.
A professional must take such performances as a room for improvement. They must analyse where they went wrong and they should work on improving those areas.
