John Daly grabs early lead at Qatar Masters: Live Leaderboard Part-2
Martin Kaymer also started the day on a strong note, carding three birdies on the back nine, before falling for a bogey on par-five, 18th.
He made the turn to pull in another birdie on the opening hole, but stumbled on two bogeys before calling it a day.
The 27-year-old German will be hoping to regain form after a disastrous start of the season at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship where he failed to make the cut.
He fell for 77 on the opening day in Abu Dhabi, one of his favourite hunting grounds, where he has won three times in last four years.
Ryder Cup European Captain, Jose Maria Olazabal decided to open his round from back nine, pulling in birdie on the opening hole.
He fell for a bogey on the very next and regained his composure to avoid any more of them through the back nine. He made the turn with blistering three birdies on the back.
Bolstered by the confidence, the Spaniard carded another two birdies on the front before he fell for a spree of bogeys, no fewer than four, for the rest of the stretch.
He settled for a disappointing one-under, 71, tied for the 13th.
Some 24 players are tied for the 13th place at the moment, including the 2010 PGA champion Kaymer, world number three Lee Westwood, veteran Ben Curtis, Italian Francesco Molinari, and Thomas Aiken.
While most of the players have already made the turn, Westwood has just started off on the front, carding a birdie on the opening hole.
Battering neck and elbow injury from last week, Westwood is hoping to pull in a strong finish, if not a win, at the start of the season.
He is coming out of one his best performances in his career, when he pulled in two consecutive titles, the Nedbank Classic and the Thailand Golf Championship at the end of the year.
Westwood played well in last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, despite his burgeoning injury and persisted in face of terrible pain to card a joint 17th.
Scott Lawrie, has been impressive since the start of the season, throwing himself in contention in Abu Dhabi, against one of the strongest fields in the history of the tournament.
Winner of the Open Championship in 1999, the Scott is desperately trying to make a U-turn in his spiralling career but has not met success as yet.
Doha Golf Club, notoriously famous for high winds, which sweep the par-72 course, presents a sturdy test for the European entourage.
