John Daly makes the cut at the Crowne Plaza Invitational for second time in his career
John Daly carded a one-under par 69 in the second round of the 2012 Crowne Plaza Invitational to make the cut for the second time in his seven appearances at the Colonial Country Club so far.
Through the first 13 holes, he played really well and managed to score four birdies against a lone bogey to go three-under for the round.
However, a wayward drive on the 14th hole flew over the green, near the cyclone fence.
Therefore, he had to suffer a bogey followed by a similar performance on the 15th hole that forced him to sign a similar result in the end.
“I didn’t know that part of the world existed,” Daly said of the area right of No. 14. “It wasn’t very far from going out of bounds”.
According to the golf commentators, Daly would have done even better, if he had focused on his game off the tee.
Of the 14 fairways, he succeeded in hitting just three. Therefore, a little extra accuracy while making the drives can turn things in his favour in the final two rounds of the event.
Daly also plans to draw an appreciative golf gallery in Fort Worth, as he believes that the older golf fans visit the golf course more often because of their higher game knowledge.
Therefore, it would really be an amazing step to draw attention of the local golf fans to the golf gallery, which will help them increase the knowledge of game they need.
He is currently tied for the 21st position along with eight other players. Vijay Singh, who recorded the first top-10 finish of his 2012 golf season, also joined him on the leaderboard after carding five birdies against two bogeys and a double
bogey on Friday.
Daly is currently playing the event on sponsor’s exemption. Last time he made the cut in the event was in 2010, when he recorded a five-under par score in the opening two rounds.
Yet, he failed to reach a respectable spot on the leaderboard because of a poor performance on the weekend, that witnessed him going five-over par 75. He took the 66th position on Sunday.
