John Daly receives invitation to play the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
John Daly was added to the field of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans through a sponsor’s exemption. The event will be played at the TPC Louisiana, from April 26, 2012.
The decision came after Boo Weekley withdrew from the event on Tuesday. Earlier on, he was scheduled to participate in the event on the sponsor’s exemption.
Daly has played a total of two events on the 2012 PGA Tour so far, as he is not a full-time member since he lost his membership in 2007.
Therefore, he is only allowed to play the PGA Tour events on sponsor exemptions. In the last two appearances this year, he was not able impress his fans because of the lousy display of his game.
He tied for the 51st position in the Transitions Championship and shared the 52nd spot in the recent RBC Heritage.
Similarly, has an average record on the European Tour as well. He has played a total of five events and has recorded only one top-10 finish.
His best finish came in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy, where he took the fourth place on the leaderboard.
It seems that the two-time major winner is lost in his past wins and has not been able to make a comeback in the world of golf.
For the past few years, he has been struggling with his driving technique and often goes over par because of mismanaged shots.
Therefore, he will be among the weak contenders at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana.
Daly needs to critically analyze his game and bring the necessary improvements in his style of play. Otherwise, he may lose his status on the European Tour too, as he did on the PGA Tour.
Meanwhile, Bubba Watson has also confirmed to return to the strong field of the Zurich Classic, where he will defend his title.
Watson has recently recorded a win at the Masters Tournament. His confidence and morale is currently touching the peaks.
Therefore, he will be a dangerous player to compete with in the $6.4 million tournament, offering $1,152,000 to the winner this year.
