John Danks’ pitching helps Chicago White Sox defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox starter, John Danks had a notable day with the ball as he threw seven overriding innings with an ERA of 4.29 in the White Sox 6-2 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Arizona on June 18.
No score was added in the first inning as the batters were unable to play solid shots. The White Sox opened their scoring account in the second inning and got an initial 1-0 lead when Alex Rios was grounded out to short-stop and Paul Konerko posted one run.
In the third inning of the game, the White Sox extended their lead 2-0 when Konerko drove a single-run shot towards centre-field and Brent Morel scored a single run.
On the other side, the Diamondbacks’ batters were score-less until the third inning but they posted two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2. Willie Bloomquist added the first run for the Diamondbacks while Stephen Drew contributed the second run
when Justin Upton hit a sacrifice fly off to right-field.
The pitchers controlled the shots of the batters during the fifth inning by throwing at their feet. The White Sox went ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning when Konerko hit a one-run homer (399 feet) towards left-field.
The seventh inning went in favour of the pitchers as they did not permit even a single run. Danks gave two runs on seven hits with one earned run and struck-out seven batters. He did not allow any walk on his 110 pitches.
The White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen had a huge ovation for Danks as he said, “I knew he was fine because he never lost any consciousness. He was talking. But your heart stops for a couple of seconds.”
The Diamondbacks’ manager, Kirk Gibson commented on Danks and said, “That guy's pretty gutsy. It looked like it hit him in the back of the head and one-hopped into the stands. He pitched well. He wanted to stay in the game.”
The batters displayed an extraordinary performance for the White Sox right through the game. In the eighth inning, they exploded three runs to extend their team’s lead 6-2. Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez both contributed two runs while Rios homered (401
feet) towards left-field. The ninth inning passed without any run.
