John Danks’ pitching helps Chicago White Sox defeat Seattle Mariners 3-1 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox starter, John Danks had a notable day as he pitched seven innings with an ERA of 4.75 and struck-out six batters in the White Sox 3-1 win over the Seattle Mariners at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on June 6.
It was the first win for the White Sox in a three-game series against the Mariners. The team put in a good performance to gain a much needed victory.
The pitchers started the day pretty well as they controlled the scoring shots of the batters in the first three innings. They threw the ball in perfect areas and the batters got out at various field spots in search of scoring runs. Justin Smoak was grounded
out to short-stop while Mike Wilson lined out to third base to put down the Mariners.
Fourth inning went in favour of the White Sox batters as they got off the mark by adding one run and took an initial 1-0 lead. Paul Konerko hit a one-run homer (363 feet) towards left-field.
In the fifth and sixth inning, the pitchers were again on top as they gave no run and the score-board was unmoved. Danks permitted one run on seven hits and allowed one walk on his 98 pitches. He said, "I would be lying to you if I said it hadn't been tough.
I've been doing a lot of beating myself up, not doubting myself, but at the same time, kind of wondering when is it going to turn around.”
During the seventh inning, the White Sox went ahead 2-0 when A.J. Pierzynski scored a single run on the shot of Gordon Beckham towards centre-field. Pierzynski commented on Danks and said, “He finally found his slider and he finally found his changeup. I
think this will be a good start for things to come.”
Both the teams contributed one run in the eighth inning to take their score-card 3-1. Brendan Ryan singled to right-field and Greg Halman posted the first run for the Mariners. On the other hand, Alex Rios added one run in the White Sox lead when Pierzynski
drove towards centre-field. The batters failed to add a run in the ninth inning.
Michael Pineda was little bit shaky as he gave two runs on five hits with two earned runs in his seven inning pitches. He struck out three batters and allowed two walks on 95 pitches.
