John Danks struggles but Chicago White Sox beat Cleveland Indians 10-6 – MLB Update
John Danks will be extremely disappointed with his performance on Wednesday night in a game against Cleveland Indians at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The starting pitcher made too many unforced errors during the contest and the Indians’ batting
lineup made him pay heavily.
The White Sox made an aggressive start to the contest and they raced to a 4-1 lead in the first inning, thanks to some high quality hitting display by Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn. Danks was clearly having a difficult time on the mound as he allowed seven
hits and four runs in just five innings. Walking five, he certainly did not help his team’s cause.
"I didn't help the cause by walking five," Danks said. "It was cold, tough conditions. Everything was in and out. My changeup was good and then it went away. I got the win, that's all that matters."
"At least I didn't have to wait until June to win," Danks said. "All the credit goes to the offense. I was very fortunate to get those runs, especially against Masterson."
However, despite his poor efforts, the White Sox managed to clinch a 10-6 victory over the Indians, thanks to Justin Masterson who seemed to have no control over his throws on April 11.
Masterson gave up five runs including three earned on eight hits in his five innings. It will not be wrong to say that Danks and Masterson played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
"Five games is not going to make me panic about my bullpen, my offense, defence or anything like that," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "We have to give it a little more time."
Danks made poor start to his regular season campaign last season as well. However after going 0-8 in his first 11 starts, he finished with a decent 8-12 record.
For the Indians, Travis Hafner hit a towering 433 foot solo home run in the first inning to keep his side in the hunt. He later added a doubled to right off Danks’ pitching to reduce the deficit to 5-4.
