John Deere A150 heater , won't light unless the cover is off . What am I doing wrong ?

When I try to light it , it just shoots out a thick grey smoke , with the cover on . However , when the cover is off , it lights right up . Also , when the cover is on it pops the reset breaker in about 15 seconds .

usually when i have this problem it's the tank filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced.  i usually clean the ignitor at the same time.  however, neither of those will have an effect on the cover being on or off.  the only thing i can think of there is air flow. check your main air filter, and your injector filter.
