John Deere Classic: Luke Guthrie ready for his second start on the PGA Tour
Luke Guthrie, who recently turned professional, is set to make the second PGA Tour start of his career, when he will tee off at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run, on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
In his earlier appearance, he tied for the 19th position at last month’s FedEx St. Jude Classic with a three-under par tournament score.
While talking to the PGA Tour official website, he told that he spent most of his life growing up in Quincy, Illinois, which is just at a two-hour drive from the venue of this week’s tournament.
“I couldn't be happier to be here, growing up in Quincy, Illinois, a couple hours south of here, and being Illini, if you have a home tournament on the PGA TOUR, this would be it,” he said.
“It's fun to be here and I couldn't thank Mr.Peterson and the stuff enough for giving me a spot and a chance here. I am excited for the week”.
TPC Deere Run is one of D.A. Weibring’s beautifully designed courses around the world and he also belongs to Quincy. Therefore, Guthrie looked really pleased with the fact that he will be playing at his fellow citizen’s developed course.
“...To be coming out of that town and just be playing here is unique, and I don't think many other players have this kind of opportunity, to kind of play in front of a home crowd,” he said.
He is now expecting a good number of golf fans heading for the venue on Thursday to watch him play a professional golf event for the first time in Illinois.
While talking about his first experience on the PGA Tour in Memphis, he told that he was not worried about his final results, as he had nothing to lose.
Therefore, he tried to play his natural game that earned him a decent finish in the end, allowing him to pocket $67,872 as prize money.
Moreover, he also told that he focused on winning the game rather than just making the cut like other newly turned professionals do. According to him, it was the major reason behind his good performance in the event.
