John Deere STX30 riding mower won't stay running after a while?

II have a John Deere STX30 riding mower that will not stay running after mowing for a while. Why? any solutions? It's like something overheats and has to cool down, because I can put the mower back in the garage, get up the next morning to start back mowing and it will work for a while, then shuts off and won't start back up. I drained and put new gas in it, replaced the spark plug, checked to make sure no wires or plugs were melted and everything SEEMS to be ok. Suggestions?

  1. John make sure the air filter is not completely clogged up. I would also get a bottle of carburetor cleaner and mix with gas.

  2. Next time it goes dead loosen the gas cap and see if it starts back. If it does, replace the gas cap. The gas cap has a vent hole in it to allow air to replace the volume of gas used by the engine. If this vent gets clogged the air can not replace the volume of gas used, creating a vacuum inside the tank.

  3. check the fuel filter. if its getting clogged then it will do what you describe.if you have no filter then your carb can get clogged. always run an fuel filter. Next check your fuel line and it's connection to the carb(check if there's  debris at  the connection site)

  4. battery weak

  5. Next time it quits, check the fuel line for flow and check for spark.  Do this as soon as it quits.  If it doesn't have spark I would suspect the ignition module.
