John Degenkolb wins the final stage of the Tour of Pologne 2012
John Degenkolb continued his tremendous run of form and succeeded during the stage 7 of the Tour of Pologne.
He crossed the finish-line in an impressive time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 32 seconds and restricted the race favourites.
Matthew Hayman of Team Sky Procycling finished second with Ben Swift, Jacopo Guarnieri and Tosh Van Der Sande occupying the next four spots.
"I'm really happy, last year my teammate Kittel was the winner here, while this year I took the honours in the final stage," said Degenkolb.
"In the final we got hit by the storm but fortunately in the last kilometre the road was nice and wide with no curves so we didn't run into any problems. It was a final suited to me and thanks to the team, which carried me magnificently, I managed to win it".
The 23-year-old is enjoying a terrific season with a total number of six victories in his bag in the first half of the season.
He claimed the first overall position at the Tour of Picardie, finished third overall at the Four Days of Dunkirk and achieved the third overall position at the Four Days of Dunkirk.
Degenkolb finished fifth at the Milan-San Remo and grabbed the sixth overall spot at the E3 Harelbeke.
The German professional cyclist also bagged stages at the Tour de Picardie, the Tour de Pologne and the Four Days of Dunkirk 2011.
He also secured the maximum number of 20 UCI points and topped the point’s category of the race with Matthew Hayman and Ben Swift of Team Sky securing the next two spots registering 18 and 17 points respectively.
Moreno Moser of Team Liquigas-Cannondale registered an overall victory at the race with a 5 second lead over Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep.
"I came here in good shape but I certainly wasn't expecting to win. My first victory at Karpacz gave me confidence," said Moser.
Michal Kwiatkowski fell 5 seconds short and had to settle for the second overall position after the Tour of Poland final general classifications.
Segio Luis Henao, Alexandr Kolobnev and Linus Gerdemann grabbed the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
