John Elway confident about Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Brock Osweiler's future – NFL News
When Denver Broncos drafted quarterback Brock Osweiler in the second round of this year’s draft, many believed that the rookie’s talent would be wasted in the bench for years.
Contrary to that, Broncos’ legend and executive vice president of football operations John Elway thinks that Osweiler will grow through the years as a franchise quarterback under the guidance of himself and Broncos’ elite starting quarterback Peyton Manning.
Elway ranks Osweiler’s talent very highly and believes that he has a perfect opportunity to become an elite quarterback in coming years. Talking to FoxSports.com, Elway said:
"There's not a better situation for Brock to be in and us to be able to set up the organization for 10 to 15 years, hopefully, to have somebody at that position you believe has the ability to win a Super Bowl."
There is no doubt that working under the shadow of a player like Manning will groom Osweiler in a big way, but he will have to wait for a long time in order to get his chance of becoming a starter in the Broncos’ camp.
Manning has been very supportive of Osweiler during training camp, while Osweiler has been taking notes of the instruction he has been given in order to revise them when Manning will not be available. Talking about quarterback cohesion, Manning said:
“You speak the same language. Quarterbacks are very protective, supportive and almost defensive of one another. That’s important. Quarterbacks have got to stick together.”
Osweiler, 21, has his entire career in front of him and is looking to learn as much as possible from two of the game’s greatest quarterbacks.
Elway also keeps a close eye on the rookie. He has some words of advice for Osweiler before the start of the preseason game against Chicago Bears.
Elway wished him good luck and gave some soothing remarks to calm his nerves. Osweiler was very pleased to get the advice. Osweiler said:
“A lot of rookies, it's pretty easy to get worked up in your first couple of games. For a guy like that to come in and say that, it’s pretty cool.”
