John Gadret is all set to for the Giro d’ Italia 2012
French Professional cyclist, John Gadret has struggled in the 2012 season and has not secured any victories yet.
His most recent appearance was during the Criterium International and the cyclist had to settle for a disappointing 69 place finish during the race.
Gadret finished the three-staged race with a deficit of 10 minutes and 49 seconds over the race leader, Cadel Evans.
Evans secured the second stage of the race and grabbed the overall classifications to secure the much needed victory for his 2012 season.
John tried his luck but he had not answer to the powerful legs of Cadel Evans, Pierrick Fedrigo and Michael Rogers.
His best performance came during the 2011 edition of the Italian Grand Tour. He grabbed the third overall spot during the race and also bagged the 11th stage.
Alberto Contador of Team Saxo Bank was the initial winner of the event. His disqualification from professional cycling resulted in Michele Scarponi as the overall winner of the Italian race.
Vincenzo Nibali jumped to the second spot and John Gadret was honoured with the third position after the final general classifications.
The 32-year-old is now targeting the Giro d’ Italia 2012 and he has guaranteed that his training for the Grand Tour is right on track.
He told La Voix des Sports, "Actually, I didn't feel like I was one week late. I knew it was going to be tough”.
“But my result this week-end doesn't reflect my capacities, it is just the result of a lack of competition. My peak is planned for the Giro".
John will now be seen in action at the GP Indurain in Spain and will also ride the Tour de Romandie, Volta a Pais Vasco and the Giro del Trentino.
He is keen to ride the maximum number of races before arriving at the Giro.
"I will still suffer a lot before getting the right pedalling rhythm again. But the climb to l'Ospedale [the last stage of Critérium International - ed.] made me feel confident. I'm on schedule", he noted.
The French is keen to register his first victory of the season as early as possible. His side, Team Ag2r-La Mondiale has also struggled to post its first victory of the 2012 season.
Even though five of its rider’s finished within the top 12 of the Criterium International, the team however is the only World Tour team which has not tasted a win at the season so far.
