John Gosden delighted at the performance of his Qipco 1000 Guineas pair at Newmarket on 6th May
Nothing could come equal to the happiness of trainer, A. P. O’Brien who won two Classics within twenty-four hours. He won the 2000 Guineas Stakes with Camelot and then was announced the winning trainer for the 1000 Guineas Stakes which were won by Homecoming
Queen.
However, the trainer of the runner up, Starscope, John Gosden, was not at all disappointed with the performance of his two entries. They could not bring back the title for him but did finish decently. Starscope was riding with Jimmy Fortune and his stable
mate, The Fugue, made it to the fourth position.
She was ridden by the stable jockey, William Buick.
The nine lengths by which Homecoming Queen dominated the race are historical as they are second longest as compared to the twenty-length margin enjoyed by Mayonaise in 1895.
"I was thrilled with both my fillies, who will go further in time and will want a longer trip," said the Newmarket handler.
Fortune said of Starscope: "My filly ran a great race, but we never saw where the winner had gone", while Buick added of The Fugue: "I'm very happy with her. She ran really well, but it was a rough race in the early stages and the ground was not ideal for
her. She will improve in time."
The trainer has not made any future plans of the two fillies public and is content with the competency of the two at the Classic. Specially in the case of Starscope, she finished even before the most celebrated entry for the race, Maybe. She was the other
entry of the winning trainer.
"She travelled into the race well but she just got a bit tired on the ground, which is getting softer all the time."
In the third career start, Starscope, has progressed from the fourth position in the seasonal debut to scoring a second position in one of the most significant and influential races.
She won the E B F “Makfi” Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Division I) on 29th October 2011 at Newmarket over seven furlongs which marked out to be her career debut.
The only unpleasant moment in the race was the fatal injury of Gray Pearl who found it difficult to break from the stall and ended being pulled up from the race. The incident delayed the race by some thirty minutes.
