John Green reflects on his daughters’ passing as White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks play in Tucson
Los Angeles Dodgers’ scout, John Green, has been going through a tormenting journey for the past few weeks as he’s coming to terms with his daughter’s death in a tragic shooting spree that left 6 people dead.
As the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox make their way back to Tucson, Arizona, to play an exhibition game in honour of John’s daughter, the now grieving father talked about the incident and Christina Taylor Green.
Christina wanted to be the first girl to pitch in the Major Leagues and John described her passion at the tender age of nine.
John reflected on the incident that took his daughter’s life and ended Democratic Congresswoman, Gabrielle Gifford’s, in the hospital with a head shot wound. Green thanked the baseball fans and teams that shared their disappointment on the events.
"This has affected a lot of people around the country", John Green said. "Our baseball community has really stepped up. I'm proud of our guys, not only my club, but everybody. If they could do anything, they would do it. These benefit games are a good example
of it, that we're in this together".
Christina was the granddaughter of the great Philadelphia Phillies figure, Dallas Green. The two teams that will engage in an exhibition game today have declared their proceedings to be carried forth to the fund set up by John in remembrance of his daughter.
Furthermore, the event is themed to soothe the terrifying memories associated with Tucson. The ball game will not only reflect on the lives lost in the city but it will remind people of the hope that Tucson personifies today.
Christina was born on the 11th of September, 2001. For John that is a realization he cannot push away.
"She was born on a tragic day and taken from us on a tragic day", said John Green. "Her nine years were very full. I wish she had many more, but that wasn't to be".
Major League Baseball is trying to help out the community in any way it can. The only tragedy here is that nothing can be done more than what it’s doing now.
