John Hastings sets his sights on 2012 Twenty20 World Cup – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Wayne-Hastings-c68914, the Australian allrounder, who is likely to undergo a nine-month rehab programme after he hurt his shoulder recently, is eying an International comeback for the Twenty20 World Cup, to be played in 2012.
"The T20 World Cup is a realistic goal. That's something that I will keep in the back of my mind just ticking along," said Hastings.
Hastings carried a shoulder injury during the practice session at Victoria, as he returned home after Australia’s recent tour to Sri Lanka.
"It felt a bit awkward, then I had a bowl the next day and it just felt like someone was stabbing me in the back of the shoulder," Hastings said.
Looking at the seriousness of injury, he underwent reconstructive shoulder surgery in Melbourne, while the team’s physio, Trefor, told the media that the physiotherapy on Hasting's right shoulder will begin after four weeks.
"The surgeon put four anchors in the back there to hold it in place. I was shattered to hear the news when I woke up that morning in the hospital bed,” the all-rounder told about his surgery.
He also added that the break will be a big setback for him, as he has been successfully moving ahead and was trying hard to reserve his place in the Australian team.
The 25-year old asserted that he would surely need to play some cricket to be selected for Australia, for which he will have to see whether his shoulder allows him to play some Twenty20 County cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
"But the World Cup gives me something nice to aim for. It’s in Sri Lanka and I've played a fair bit of cricket in Sri Lanka for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746," asserted Hastings.
The right-arm pacer has claimed 11 wickets at an average of 51.25, whereas bowling in three Twenty20 Internationals, he hauled figures of 3-14 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, in August.
Hastings will miss Australia’s home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka.
However, Hastings revealed that the surgeon was confident of his shoulder’s full recovery very soon.
