The Liverpool owner has admitted that his team’s new manager is not under any pressure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League despite Liverpool’s woeful results in the previous Premier League season which led to Rodgers’
appointment and Kenny Dalglish’s dismissal...
Liverpool’s owner, John W Henry has revealed that there won’t be any pressure on Brendan Rodgers to take the Merseyside club to a UEFA Champions League qualification spot in his first full season at the club.
John Henry’s wrath came down on Kenny Dalglish at the start of the summer transfer window following the conclusion of the previous Premier League season when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 failed to compete for a UEFA Champions League qualification
place and lost out to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the F.A Cup final too.
Even though Dalglish won the Carling Cup with the Reds, it wasn’t enough to save his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as he was duly replaced by Rodgers. However John Henry has been welcoming of the new manager and admitted that there won’t be any pressure
on him to match a certain goal or a set of targets.
Liverpool’s manager himself has asserted that it will be foolish to think that the club will start competing right away with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United at the top of the league table as it will
take some time for him to integrate his philosophy into the players.
John W Henry said, “We don't want to put any pressure on Brendan by saying 'you have got to make the Champions League this year'. Of course he wants to make the Champions League, we all do and so does every team in the Premier
League.”
He added, “I thought it was realistic last season but we were so far off that pace. At this point we're just trying to get things stabilised - that should be one of our goals. Brendan has a very structured approach and he plays
the kind of football that we think Liverpool fans will love to see”
Liverpool fans will take heart from the fact that their new manager has a commitment to attacking football and he will be given time to implement commitment at Anfield but it remains to be seen exactly how long of a time will be
given to him under John W Henry’s ownership.
