John Higgins aims to break Stephen Hendry’s record of seven Crucible Crowns – Snooker News
Current World Number one, John Higgins, who last night outplayed the Bristolian Ace, Judd Trump, to lift his fourth Crucible Crown, has become the only player after Stephen Hendry (seven) and Steve Davis (six), to win more than three world titles.
However, the thirty-five-year-old Scottish professional has said he is aiming for at least three more Crucible Crowns, as he wants to stand next to the King of Crucible, Stephen Hendry.
The past twelve months have been turbulent for Higgins, as he was banned for six months and also he lost his father, John Senior, in February. He was also shaken by a spectator who shouted at him in his twenty-eighth frame of the semi-final match against
Mark Williams. Despite of all the problems, his performance around the table has been remarkable.
This was Higgins fifth appearance in the final of the World Snooker Championship since 1998. He has been successful three times in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
Higgins said, "I want to get to seven world titles now, because I've won three in the last five years. I've rededicated myself in recent years and I want to keep winning it. I didn't expect to be winning so soon, but since I came back in November I have
won pretty much everything I have entered. It has been an unbelievable six or seven months for me.”
The World Number one added, "I am scrapping for everything now; every point, every frame, every match. I have another few years of trying to do it. There are people like Judd coming through but if I can contend with that I have a few years to do it."
It was one of the best finals since 2005 and Higgins produced a high standard game to see off his dangerous opponent.
Higgins, the most experienced campaigner in the game was trailing the young Englishman, Judd Trump, 12-9, in their third session before he bounced back into the game to win four straight frames. Higgins then showed great temperament to dominate the fourth
session and lift the title in style.
