John Higgins beats Judd Trump to grab fourth career world title: World Snooker Championship 2011
Scotsman John Higgins became the world Snooker champion for the fourth time in his career after beating the Englishman Judd Trump with a convincing score line of 18-15 in the final of the World Snooker Championship 2011 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield
on Monday.
Higgins was suspended from the world snooker the same time in 2010 over match fixing allegations but was later absolved of the charges. In 2011, during the German Masters in February, he suffered another great loss when his father John Higgins senior passed
away and he had to withdraw from the tournament.
The first session of the final match ended in a tie at 4-4 as both Higgins and Trump played brilliantly but no one could claim the lead. However, a couple of major breaks were fired by the pair in the session that made the match more interesting to watch
from the start.
The spectators saw a close encounter in the second session of the final match with the Bristolian Trump leading by 10-7 at the end. Trump fired a couple of rattling breaks of 58 and 103 to nudge Higgins three-frames down.
The scenario of the game changed in the third session when Higgins stumbled upon the table out of nowhere and fired some superb snooker shots to snatch the lead from Trump with some impressive clearances of 59, 97, 93, 113 and 57. The third session ended
with Higgins leading at 13-12.
The last session was completely dominated by the North Lanarkshire potter, Higgins as he extended his lead to 14-12 after the first frame of the session. However, he faced tough resistance from Trump during the session but the 35-year-old Higgins managed
to emerge as the world snooker champion after he defeated the Englishman by 18-15.
“It’s an unbelievable moment to win it again,” said Higgins. It’s been amazing, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for (the support of his family). It’s just an unbelievable 12 months but it’s been great. This is by far and away the biggest and best title that
I've won.”
The current 2010-11 season has been tremendous for Higgins as he has grabbed three major ranking titles including the UK Championship 2010, Welsh Open 2011 and World Snooker Championship 2011 along with some minor ranking events.
