John Higgins beats Judd Trump to lift fourth World Snooker Championship title – Snooker news
Scotland’s John Higgins claimed the fourth world title of his career on Monday, May 2 when he defeated the young Englishman Judd Trump with the score line of 18-15 in a thrilling final encounter of the World Snooker Championship 2011 at the Crucible Theatre
in Sheffield.
The world number one had his father as his inspiration to play well in the match and he burst into tears after he was asked about him at the end of the game. The Scotsman’s father John Higgins senior had always been a great support for him during his professional
life and always kept his hopes high.
“He's been at the back of my thoughts. He'll up there, having a party,” Higgins said. “It's an unbelievable moment to win it again. It's been amazing, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for (the support of his family). It's just an unbelievable 12 months but
it's been great. This is far and away the biggest and best I've ever won, no question.”
The Scotsman faced a tough resistance from the youngster Trump during the best-of-35 frames match and described him as the future world champion.
“I've lost to a multiple future world champion. He's that good,” said Higgins. “He's a good-looking boy, young, exciting. The old has-beens like us will be around for a few more years to ruffle them up but he's definitely the future which is great.”
The 35-year-old Higgins has high aims in his career in future as he is looking to break Stephen Hendry’s record of seven world titles. The veteran Steve Davis has already described Higgins as the greatest player to have the tendency to bring a huge change
in the game of snooker.
He said, “I want to get to seven world titles now because I've won three in the last five years.”
However, the 21-year-old Bristolian Trump has not lost his heart and is still looking forward to the world title and the number one spot when he returns to the Crucible Theatre next year.
