John Higgins beats Judd Trump to lift the World Snooker Championship Title
The Bristolian Ace, Judd Trump, succumbed to John Higgins by a frame score of 18-15 in the best-of-thirty-five final match of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. The event
was held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
The twenty-one-year-old, Trump, became one of the most dominant players in the championship, as he came from nowhere and reached the finals of the snooker’s most prestigious event for
the first time ever. He impressively shrugged off the defending champion, Neil Robertson, Martin Gould, Graeme Dott and Ding Junhui.
However in the final he missed a few key shots at crucial moments and his hopes of becoming the second youngest world champion after Stephen Hendry since 1990 faded away.
Meanwhile the world number one, John Higgins, held his nerves and produced high standards of game to lift the title for the fourth time.
The overall score-line between the players was 19-64, 1-76, 73-38, 74-54, 115-5, 0-113, 69-68, 19-56, 64-20, 45-67, 0-68, 0-127 (103), 63-38, 64-25, 18-77, 9-60, 36-69, 67-8, 0-113 (104),
97-0 (97), 0-99 (99), 65-55, 93-25 (93), 113-1 (113), 77-8, 66-38, 0-78, 38-60, 64-52, 65-35, 75-52, 64-44 and 62-61.
The Englishman, Trump, had a commanding three frames overnight lead by 7-10 at the end of the second session, but he fell down in the third session. John Higgins, who is one of the most
experienced campaigners in the game bounced back into the game and turned his three-frame deficit into a one frame advantage at 13-12.
It was a great performance from Higgins, as he, at a point, was trailing his opponent 9-12 before he clawed back and won all the last four frames. Higgins also enjoyed classy breaks of
59, 97, 47, 93, 113 and 57.
In the fourth session Trump got the first chance, but unfortunately his cue ball went in-off a red into the middle pocket and he lost the frame, as his opponent fired a magnificent break
of 62. However the young boy showed great temperament to level the score once again at 14-14 by winning the next two frames in a row.
He also would have won the twenty-ninth frame, but he was unlucky, as he snookered himself behind the black when he was leading 51-0 and Higgins went ahead at 15-14. In the thirtieth frame
he again had a frame-winning chance before he suddenly missed a black off the spot and gifted another frame to his opponent.
Though Trump narrowed the gap in the thirty-first frame with a superb break of 70, but he lost the thirty-second again.
The last frame they played was pretty dramatic. Once again it was Trump who was first among the balls. He compiled a carving break of 60 before he missed the final pink off the spot. It
was an unbelievable miss from Trump.
Higgins sealed his victory with a snooker behind the black in this frame. John Higgins after this great achievement
busted into tears and celebrated his victory with his family, who were their to share this great moment of joy.
