John Higgins believes winning 1st match of 2012 World Snooker Championship will boost his confidence
Defending World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins is all set to retain his title after winning the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The Scotsman is quite determined to defend his title but at the same hand, he
is also a bit worried because his performance throughout the recent season has not been up to the mark and he believes he might face challenging contests ahead in the event.
For the Wizard of Wishaw, winning the opening match of any snooker tournament, especially the World Snooker Championship is important because it strengthens the courage of a potter and boosts his confidence. This is why he is looking to make an appearance
in his first match at the Crucible Theatre so that he can release the pressure and go ahead into the advance stages of the event with most of his confidence.
While speaking to the reporters about his concerns, Higgins said, “I’m not going to be going up there high on confidence, but I’ve been to the World Championship before not feeling that great and managed to come through and win the title.”
The 36-year-old added, “But my form this season has been nowhere near good enough. If I win my first match then your confidence can all change. It’s really important to win your first round match, if you can get through that then you can settle into the
tournament and anything can happen.”
He is placed on first seed of the 2012 World Snooker Championship line up and will inaugurate the Championship with his match. He might face the former World Snooker Champion, Ireland’s Ken Doherty or England’s Anthony Hamilton in the opening round of the
mega event.
Higgins is not satisfied with his performance in the running season and does not want to end it in despair after losing in the Championship. However, he is practising hard to overcome his weaknesses and is looking forward for a sound start of the tournament.
It will be interesting to see what Higgins can do to improve his performance and create some winning momentum.
