John Higgins defeats Stephen Hendry for final spot: Scottish Professional Snooker Championship 2011
The Crucible favourite, John Higgins stormed into the final of the Scottish Professional Snooker Championship 2011 after defeating veteran Stephen Hendry with a one-sided score-line of 5-0 in the semi-final.
The world number one provided the crowd at the Lucky Break Snooker Club in Clydebank with a tremendous display of classy snooker as he grabbed a whitewash victory over compatriot Hendry.
The crowd in Glasgow cheered every shot played by Higgins. On the other hand, the former seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry watched him building big breaks while sitting on his chair most of the time during the match. In the very first frame, Higgins swept the table in one visit, potting a superb century break of 136, the highest break of the event so far.
The 35-year-old, Higgins gave in a performance worth appreciation during the match as he made it look easy after taking a 1-0 lead. He spent most of the time at the table and sent a message to the snooker world just before the mega event starts at the Crucible.
He dug deep through the match with his classy snooker techniques and in no time he extended his lead to 4-0. After the interval, the crowd was still hoping for Hendry to bounce back and try to capitalize the game and add more thrill to the match, however, Hendry failed to live up to the expectations.
Another impressive display was Higgins’ long potting shots during the match. One of his shot in the last frame was brilliant when he pulled off a long red ball to gain control over the table and finish off the match. The crowd cheered John Higgins and gave him a standing ovation after he clinched the victory with a sensational century break of 125 in the last frame.
Higgins was visibly delighted with his performance in the match and expressed his joy saying that this match would help boost his confidence ahead of the final. The player now seems more than ready for the final showdown of the event at the Lucky Break Snooker Club in Clydebank, Glasgow on Thursday, 14 April.
