John Higgins disappointed with his run in 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Former four-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins was not feeling confident of defending his title before entering the 2012 World Snooker Championship because he believed that his season run was not according to expectations.
During his season campaign, the Scotsman was not able to win any major or minor ranking event which worried him a bit when he was about to start his first round match against the Chinese potter Liang Wenbo at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
The first match against Wenbo started well for the Scot but Wenbo’s come back and troubled him a bit in the first sessions. However, the Wizard of Wishaw sprang back into the match and hit back-to-back frame wins to triumph over the Chinese cueman by the
close score line of 10-9.
Higgins’ performance against a rookie like Wenbo did expose his form but still the defending Champion was quite confident of advancing in the event. He set up Stephen Hendry clash in the second round of the mega event. Hendry was indeed a worthy opponent
but the Champ failed to step up against the veteran and brutally lost his control over the game.
The first two sessions of the game were worth watching as both potters were playing neck-to-neck. However, Higgins tumbled down and at the end of the first day Hendry led the match by 12-4. The 17th frame proved to be the final touch where the
veteran cueman proved his class. Higgins is not happy with his form and feels disappointed over his loss. He will be looking to take a careful look at his game and try to make improvements for the future.
While speaking to World Snooker, Higgins said, “First of all I thought Stephen hit the ball tremendously well, he looked back to his best. I really don't know what happened, after the first session I thought it was a really good match. This place can do
that to you, I've seen it before, it can bring you your good moments but it can also give you your worst nightmare.”
Meanwhile, the Golden Boy, Hendry has made his way successfully into the quarter-final stage where he will be meeting the Scottish player, Stephen Maguire.
