John Higgins excited about participation in Pink Ribbon Pro Am tournament – Snooker news
The reigning world champion John Higgins is excited about his participation in the Pink Ribbon Pro Am tournament, which is going to begin this Thursday at the South West Snooker Academy in Quedgeley.
The 36-year-old has not been in practice since he lifted the Crucible Crown 2011 but still he is excited to compete on the green baize.
He remarked, “Snooker is becoming a year-round sport with lots of tournaments, but this is the first one for me since I won the Worlds. We went away the morning after the final for my sister-in-law's wedding and then on another holiday, so I haven't had
much time to practice. But as soon as I heard about this tournament, I knew I wanted to compete.”
Higgins, who is going to join the tournament on Friday upon his arrival on a pink bus at 5pm, lost his father due to cancer and therefore knows the importance of the event which is being held.
While speaking on his inclusion, the four-time Crucible winner said, “My dad passed away of breast cancer earlier this year. It is a very rare disease in men and so the Pink Ribbon cause is one that is very close to me and my family's heart.”
The Scottish also admired the organiser of the event Paul Mount. He said he is doing a great job for the awareness of breast cancer and also for the young snooker players who want to pursue their careers in the sport.
Higgins added this tournament provided an excellent chance for the youngsters, as they get motivated upon getting an opportunity to play with the top players of the country.
Mount has told the media that last year the tournament raised 6,000 pounds for the charity and this year he was expecting a lot more.
Judd Trump will also be joining this year’s tournament along with the likes of Jimmy White, Graeme Dott, Shaun Murphy, Andrew Pagett and last year’s champion, Michael Holt.
