John Higgins eyes world title but still disappointed about season’s performance – Snooker News
Reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins is at the baize all the time practising hard to defend his title at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Last season was a golden finish for the Champion but during the current season, he has not been
up to the mark with his cue stick and still regrets the way he finished the proceedings.
Last season brought bad news for Higgins when he came to know about his father’s death. He had to quit a tournament and rush back home but after he came back, he was a totally different person. The Wizard of Wishaw played tremendously in the second session
and clinched the 2011 Welsh Open and later the 2011 World Snooker Championship.
Higgins spoke to the Press Association Sport about previous season, “It was like I was in a bubble last year. Emotional? Yes, that was it. This year it's maybe taken its toll a little bit and I've not been feeling so interested in the sport, but that only
lasts so long and I've got the hunger back hopefully to try to do better in the next few years.”
The start of the 2011-12 Snooker Season was good for the Scotsman and he was hoping for convincing results but unfortunately he was unable to play up to the standards and tumbled down in early stages of many major ranking snooker events. The Lanarkshire
cueman, now believes that his preparation for the upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championship is not up to the mark.
The 36-year-old added, “My preparation for snooker has just been nowhere near. To be brutally honest, I've not been interested, and that's my own fault because I know I'm the kind of player who needs to practice to go into events.”
To be able to defend his title against in-form potters like Judd Trump, Stephen Lee, Peter Ebdon and Ronnie O’Sullivan, Higgins will be looking to pull up his socks and play like a Champion in the televised round of the World Championship so that he can
fulfil his fans’ expectations. It will be exciting to see Higgins battle it out with his tremendous snooker skills and fierce determination.
