John Higgins feels confident to win 2012 Masters at Alexandra Palace – Snooker news
Scotland’s John Higgins put up an outstanding snooker show at the Alexandra Palace in his quarter-final clash against compatriot Graeme Dott. The current World Snooker Champion defeated Dott quite easily by the score line of 6-3. Higgins now feels confident to claim the 2012 Masters Snooker title this year.
The first session of the Higgins-Dott quarter-final encounter was a topsy-turvy affair with no clue about the eventual leader of the game. However, Higgins edged past Dott after the fourth frame and took three straight frames to grab a 5-2 lead. Another frame win in one visit by the score of 89-0 put an end to the quarter-final match with Higgins as the eventual winner.
The Wizard of Wishaw was outstanding from the start as he did not let Dott unsettle him at any moment during the match. There were some thrilling situations in the first session of the match which stunned spectators. Dott tried his best to make an impact but he did not succeed and slipped three frames down. The 36-year-old Higgins has achieved a string position in the 2012 Masters Snooker tournament and feels confident to claim the title.
Speaking to World Snooker in the post match interview, the Scotsman said, “It was a bit like my first match. Luckily for me Graeme didn't really turn up tonight. He started well but I won the third frame to make it 2-1 so that was probably a turning point. I played ok, perhaps I was still a little bit nervous, but then I felt great in the last frame to make that frame winning break.”
The World Number three added, “You hope to play your way into the tournament. It was decent stuff, but Graeme didn't play anything like the way he can play which was good for me. The venue is more intimate, it's a little more gladiatorial, that's what I like.”
The North Lanarkshire cuemen has booked his berth in the penultimate stage of the tournament where he will face Shaun Murphy or the World Number One, Mark Selby in the semi-final encounter. The Selby/Murphy quarter-final clash will be televised on Friday, January 20.
