John Higgins leads Rory McLeod, 10-5 at 2011 World Snooker Championship
John Higgins has ended his second session with a 10-5 lead over Rory McLeod in a best-of-25 frames match in the second round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship, which is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
It was an old fashioned game and also one of the poorest matches that have been played so far, as both players made a lot of mistakes and moreover the average time for one frame was almost 30 minutes. However the overall score-line between both players was 25-61; 65-67; 73 (73)-12; 86-37; 71-38; 94 (53)-0; 76-55; 57-66; 49-62; 85(72)-0;24-70 (57); 57-9; 61-53; 127 (80)-0 and 65-14.
Rory McLeod, who was trailing 5-3 at the end of the first session, dominated the first frame without doing anything outstanding to come within one frame at 5-4. Though the first chance in it fell for Higgins, he missed an unbelievable red and gifted the frame. In the second frame however he restored his one frame lead with a classy break of 72. Following the eleventh and twelfth frame were again shared by both players and the scores before the mid-session interval was 6-5.
On resuming the game however the current world number one player, Higgins, bounced back into the game, with all of his zeal, energy and strength, and won all four frames in a row to end his campaign with a commanding 10-5 lead.
McLeod had many chances to comeback, especially in the thirteenth frame. There were only three balls on the table, blue, pink and black, with McLeod needing two of them. He potted the blue before he lost his nerves on the final pink, as he missed it off the spot.
The highest break during the match was 80 which came up in the fourteenth frame from the three-time world champion and the tournament favourite, John Higgins.
Both players will start off with their third and final session today at 1000 (BST). All there is left to see is whether McLeod is able to make a comeback against Higgins.
