John Higgins looking to play Stephen Hendry in 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Former record holder World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Stephen Hendry had an impressive run in the final round of 2012 World Snooker Championship Qualifiers against Yu Delu to book his place in the mega event. The draws of first-round competitions will
be announced soon. However, Hendry might be drawn against the reigning World Snooker Champion, Jon Higgins in his first match.
On the other hand, the defending Champion, Higgins also wants to play the veteran in the inaugural game of the Championship as he said he will love to play him at the Crucible. The Wizard of Wishaw appreciated Hendry for his outstanding career and commented
that he has done nothing as compared to what the Ice Man has achieved.
Speaking to the media about his desire, Higgins said, “That's one of the players I think I could be drawn against. If you look at the career Stephen's had, and I've done not so bad myself, for me and him to never have played at the Crucible is strange. We've
never even got close to playing and I would love to play Stephen Hendry at the Crucible.”
Hendry, on the other hand, added, “I don't go there hoping to play well, or hoping to play fantastic snooker, I just go there to get the match won and that's the main thing. I don't think I'll enjoy it.”
The Wizard of Wishaw has been focusing on his game because he believes he was not able to perform accordingly in the current season but he wants to finish it with a style. He is hoping for a good competition in the opening round so that he can regain his
confidence of handling pressure during the Championship. Higgins will be looking to put in a good performance and dominate the proceedings.
Meanwhile, Belgium’s Luca Brecel will be making his debut at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and will become the youngest potter to have played in the World Snooker Championship. Before him, Hendry held the record of youngest Crucible qualifiers. Brecel
believes he will produce good results during his run in the mega event when he plays against the top guns of snooker.
