John Higgins looking to win fifth World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
All eyes are on the first round competitions of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre where all top guns of the game will battle for the ultimate Crucible glory. The defending Champion, John Higgins is all set to face the Chinese cueman,
Liang Wenbo who came through to the initial round of the Championship after playing brilliantly in the qualifying session.
The four-time World Snooker Championship winner, Higgins is eyeing to retain his title that he won last year beating the 2011 UK Championship, England’s Judd Trump. Higgins reckons that winning the most prestigious snooker tournament is something that makes
a player happy beyond imagination. The charm of winning a World Championship cannot be described in words.
The Lanarkshire potter has clinched four titles so far and still hungers for more world glories. He was unable to perform according to the expectations of his fans and felt disappointed over his form. The Scotsman is now practising hard to regain his form
and enter the Crucible arena to defend his title. The former UK Championship winner wants to win another title and follow the legacy of the great Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis.
While speaking to the local media, Higgins said, “Every time you win the World Championship it's the most special one. Last year was a special moment for different reasons but I don't think you can differentiate between any of them because they're all great
achievements. To win it four times is probably beyond my wildest dreams when I turned to be a professional snooker player.”
He added, “I've kicked off the tournament three times before as defending champion. You don't feel pressure like it and I'm sure it will be the same again. To win it a fifth time and get closer to players like Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry would be amazing
but it will tough as always.”
However, Higgins wanted to face the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry in his opening match but he was drawn against Wenbo. Hendry, on the other hand, will be facing the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, Stuart Bingham in the
Last 32.
