John Higgins misses his father after lifting his fourth Crucible Crown: World Snooker update
The World Snooker Champion, John Higgins recently came out and revealed that he missed his father, after he clinched his fourth Crucible title on Monday, May 2. Higgins defeated the youngster, Judd Trump, 18-15 in the final clash of the Betfred.com World
Snooker Championship 2011.
Higgins’ father, John senior, has been an inspiration for him throughout his career and last year at the Crucible, he was right there in the arena watching his son play. The Scotsman, Higgins, imagined the moment his father was with him in the previous three
finals he won and felt sad because he saw his seat empty this year.
“He was an inspiration. Normally I have been sitting on the other side at the Crucible, and I found myself looking at that spot, probably the last picture of him here,” said Higgins.
Higgins’ father passed away in February when the champ was playing at the German Masters 2011 in Berlin. He withdrew from the event after he received the news of his death. The 35-year-old Higgins came back to participate in the Welsh Open 2011 with a heavy
heart but played outstandingly. He clinched the Welsh Open 2011 title, beating compatriot Stephen Maguire and dedicated the title to his father.
"The BBC did a little montage when I won the Welsh Open, and there was a part where my mum and dad were kissing, right by the side where I was sitting for my matches,” he added.
The North Lanarkshire potter, Higgins paid tribute to his family after he lifted his fourth Crucible crown a couple of days ago. His family had been very supportive throughout his year and especially in the days when he was suffering from match-fixing charges.
“I have certainly found out who my friends are - and (my wife) Denise has been my rock, an amazing woman who has kept the family together. This one is also for the rest of my family because they have been right behind me, it has been a tough year,” he said.
Meanwhile, the World Snooker Rankings have been updated once again with John Higgins tumbling down to number two while the Welshman, Mark Williams, has grabbed the number one spot. On the other hand, the runner-up, Judd Trump, has moved up to the ninth position
in the rankings.
