John Higgins ousts Dave Harold in round 2 of 2011 Welsh Open – Snooker news
The world number one John Higgins has beaten Dave Harold with a frame score of 4-1 in the round 2 at the 2011 Welsh Open to reach the last 8.
John Higgins had been through a lot as his father died to cancer but he has shown good quality games after coming back.
Harold on the other side was playing the best of his long time career but still had to watch most of the match sitting in his chair.
In the first frame, Dave Harold got a chance first in but broke down after rolling in 32 giving Higgins a chance who could also pot 12 but later on a break of 55 from him took the game into safe hands. Although Harold was given a chance but he could
not do much. Higgins took the opening frame 1-0. Similarly, he also took the second frame dominating it with a break of 65 giving Harold no chance at 2-0.
Harold in the third frame made a break of 49 before playing a poor shot leaving a red on the pocket. Harold was lucky as Higgins also potted 52 giving him again a chance to get back on the table. Harold after adding another 20 to his score took his
first frame making scores 2-1.
However, the fourth frame was completely dominated by John Higgins as he produced a magnificent second highest break of the tournament at 136 making a total clearance to lead again by two frames 3-1. Higgins was now only one frame away from the victory.
Harold tried his best to prolong the battle a bit and had succeeded to some extend as Higgins awaited snooker in it. However, the flawless safety skills of Higgins made Harold give away two fouls of 11 points and another clearance of 35 from Higgins
sent Harold back home.
The overall score line was 73-54, 65-1, 52-69, 136-0 and 68-60.
John Higgins was not able to produce much of his game in round 1 against Jack Lisowski, which was his first match after the family tragedy, as he was seen missing a lot but he is now back in form again. He said he has been practicing a lot before the
match and is pleased with the results.
The top favourite of the tournament John Higgins is now through to the last 8 and will play his quarter-final match with the winner of Ryan Day vs. Mathew Stevens match on February 18, 2011.
