John Higgins ousts Ronnie O’Sullivan, 13-10 – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
The world number one, John Higgins, has beaten Ronnie O’Sullivan by a frame score of 13-10 in the best-of-twenty-five quarter-final of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held
at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It was not an impressive performance from the Rocket, O’Sullivan, as he wasted many frame-winning chances. However the Scottish professional, Higgins, on the same note made an accomplishing performance.
He was down by three frames in the second session before he levelled the score and then eventually won in the final session.
The overall score-line between the players was 94 (53)-0, 66 (66)-0, 28-83 (69), 15-93, 65-64,(121)-0, 35-89 (89), 0-105 (105), 14-56, 49-82 (82), 3-77 (77), 66 (61)-1, 13-69, 75 (66)-41, 56-51, 80 (80)-
0, 9-124 (116), 68 (63)-38, 103 (65)-23, 73 (73)-54(54), 23-94 (94) and 79 (79)-0.
Both 35-year-old players ended their opening session at a score-line of 4-4. In the second session, however, it was the world number ten, O’Sullivan, who went ahead by three frame by 8-5 and looked in
a total control.
Three-time world champion, O’Sullivan, had many chances in the following frames, but he couldn’t capitalise on them. He missed reasonably easy balls and was punished from his opponent, who sealed his victory
by winning eight frames out of the last ten played.
O'Sullivan said, "I made far too many elementary mistakes which is unforgivable at this level, or any level, even amateur level. I can't sit
here and say I deserved to win because I don't think I did. I think I did well to get 10 frames."
He said, "That's still sub-standard snooker, but I wasn't smashing myself to pieces out there. I felt like it, but I've worked on a couple of things which have made me want to not get too involved. Higgins
on the same note said "Ronnie missing, simple as that."
Former three-time world champion, John Higgins, is now only two victories away from his fourth Crucible Crown. He will now face the Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams, in the semi-final.
