John Higgins supports Barry Hearn for his contributions in snooker – Snooker News
Four-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins wanted to play the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry in the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield but that did not happen and now he will face
China’s Liang Wenbo in the inaugural match on Saturday, April 21.
Meanwhile, Higgins appreciated the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn for his impressive contributions to the sport. He has supported the snooker boss in the past and believes Hearn has brought good changes in the game and snooker will progress in his presence.
The Wizard of Wishaw liked the initiative of increasing the number of snooker events in a year.
Before Hearn joined World Snooker in 2009, there were eight major ranking snooker events along with a couple of minor events but Hearn added more events in the calendar and now there are 30 snooker events in a season. With increased number of snooker events,
players have more chances to improve their rankings and win many snooker titles.
Speaking to the media, Higgins said, “There are times when you don't enjoy it and are going through a tough time privately, but if you think of the chances we are getting under Barry, it's a good job to be doing if you are doing it well. There is no point
in crying about it.”
The 36-year-old added, “The waves will crash over you. He has no time for passengers and rightly so. He is a businessman. It is up to us as players to juggle our lives to coincide with the new season. It is tough, but let me tell you it is a great choice
to have.”
Meanwhile, the legendary snooker player, former seven-time World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry has made his way successfully into the first round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after beating China’s Yu Delu in the final qualifier. It was a tremendous
match up as Hendry put in a good performance to defeat Yu Delu and advance.
The veteran potter will meet the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, England’s Stuart Bingham in the opening round. The draw seems tough because Bingham is in good form and might trouble the Ice Man.
