John Higgins turns the table over Mark Williams – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
The current world number one, John Higgins, has turned the tables over Mark Williams, as he surged into a two-frame by 13-11 at the end of their best-of-thirty-three semi-final match of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. This event is being staged at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It was a highly impressive performance from the Wizard of Wishaw, Higgins, as he held his nerves to win six out of the eight frames. However the Welsh Potting Machine, Williams, who was leading by two frames, has fallen down in the third session.
The 35-year-old, Higgins, dominated the first frame without doing anything outstanding to come within one frame. However any early nerves were removed from his opponent, who restored his two frame lead with a classy break of 75 in the following eighteenth.
Though the Scottish professional, Higgins, again dominated the eighteenth to reduce the deficit, he lost the nineteenth again before the mid-session interval break. He was looking in a strong position during the frame, but unfortunately a good safety shot of him was foiled by a red who nudged the blue ball.
On resuming the game however it was a totally different story, as the three-time Crucible winner, Higgins, bounced back into the game, with all of his zeal, energy and strength, and won all of the four frames to end his campaign with a two-frame lead, 13-11.
Though Williams was the first one to be among the balls in the twentieth frame, he lost his nerves, breaking down on 45 and was punished from his opponent straight away. Higgins then took the twenty-first frame to level the scores at 11-11.
Last two frames between both players were scrappy affairs. Many chances were seen coming and going, but in the end it was again the Wishaw potter who came on the top to gain a shocking two frame cushion.
Both players will start off with their fourth and final session today in the evening at the same place. There is going to be a lot of drama but let’s see if Williams can make it once again.
