John Higgins voted ‘Player of the Year’ while Judd Trump receives ‘Fans Player of the year’ award
The Wizard of Wishaw, John Higgins, has been nominated as snooker’s Player of the Year and he also won the Snookers Journalist Player of the Year category. The rising star, Judd Trump, on the same note won the Fans
Player of the Year and Performance of the Year award. The awards were handed over at the sport’s new Awards Ceremony. This event was held at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Friday, May 6.
The 35-year-old, Higgins, has enjoyed an exceptional 2010-11 season. He was handed a six-month ban for alleged involvement in match-fixing, for which the charges were later cleared, but he has almost been invincible
since he returned. Apart from other dominant performances, one of his best showings came at the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship where he became the only player after Stephen Hendry (seven) and Steve Davis (six) to win three world titles.
"I'm honoured to have been named Player of the Year," said Higgins. "It's a fantastic way to round off what has been an incredible season. Winning a fourth World title
was a new high in my career, and I hope there are many more titles to come."
Meanwhile, the Bristolian Ace, Trump enjoyed an excellent season as well. The Englishman was not known by many before he recently won the China Open and reached the finals of snooker’s most prestigious event. Trump,
who had never won any ranking event in his professional career before, is now the reigning China Open winner and has also become the second youngest player ever – since Stephen Hendry in 1990 – to reach a Crucible final.
His magnificent play and attacking style has earned him an army of fans. His list of admirers also includes some of the legends of the game; Jimmy White, Dennis Taylor, Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Stephen
Hendry.
It is also being suggested that Trump will be labelled as a People’s Champion very soon, as he resembles Jimmy White a lot.
