John Higgins wants to chase Stephen Hendry’s record of seven titles: World Snooker Championship 2011
World champion John Higgins is looking to chase Stephen Hendry’s record of seven world snooker titles in his career.
Higgins clinched his fourth world title after a stunning 18-15 victory over the young Judd Trump in the final of the World Snooker Championship 2011 on Monday, May 2 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
The veteran Steve Davis, who has grabbed the title six times, has already described the world number one Higgins as the greatest player to have the capability to change the face of the game with his extraordinary snooker techniques and steady potting skills.
It is hard to disagree that the Scotsman definitely has that tremendous spark to clinch the record of most world titles after assessing what he displayed with his cue stick in the last 17 days of the Championship. He has been an astounding contender from
the very first match against Stephen Lee to the final match with the youngster Judd Trump.
The 35-year-old Higgins said, “It's just an unbelievable feeling to beat Judd like that. This is by far and away the biggest and best title that I've won. But now I want to get to seven. I've won it in three of the last five seasons, and have dedicated myself
so I just want to keep on winning it as it's an incredible feeling. I don't see any reason why I can't do it - I have another five years to try and win it three times.”
Higgins’ compatriot and a living legend in the world of snooker, Stephen Hendry, lifted the title for a record seven times during the 1990s while Higgins had bagged the title on four occasions in 1998, 2007, 2009 and 2011. He believes he can add more to
his account in the upcoming seasons.
The final match between John Higgins and Judd Trump was a definite thriller and gave the spectators a nail-biting experience. The North Lanarkshire potter Higgins defeated the 21-year-old Judd Trump after a tremendous game play.
The pair thanked the crowed after the match for their support and the standing ovation they received as they entered the arena. However, two of the fans were thrown out of the arena for heckling Higgins during his semi-final match against Mark Williams.
