John Higgins wins his fourth Crucible Crown – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
The current world number one, John Higgins, has beaten Judd Trump by a frame score of 18-15 in the best-of-thirty-five frames final match of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It was one of the best finals played at the Crucible in recent memories and certainly the best since 2005. The 35-year-old Scotland’s professional produced high standards of game to become the first and only player, other than Stephen Hendry
and Steve Davis to win more than three world titles.
The Bristolian Ace potter, Judd Trump, on the same note almost had his chance for becoming the second youngest world championship since Stephen Hendry in 1990, but he missed some key shots at vital moments.
The twenty-one-year-old, Trump, ended the second session with a three frames overnight lead at 10-7. However he failed to maintain his lead in the following two session, as Higgins, one of the most experienced campaigners, won eleven out of the
sixteen frames to seal his victory.
The Wizard of Wishaw, Higgins, bounced back in the third session to go in front by one frame at 13-12 and then he also showed great temperament in the final session to lift snooker’s most prestigious title.
John Higgins won the World Championship titles in 1998, 2007, 2009 and now in 2011 and now his name is engraved in four world trophies, which means he has a fair chance of ending his career as one of the snooker all-time great players.
The past twelve months for Higgins were the most turbulent in his career and personal life. He had a ban of six months and then in this February he lost his father John Senior.
Higgins needed snooker in the last frame and he managed in trapping his opponent behind the black. The crowd at the Crucible went ballistic when he fired an amazing double in the middle pocket to come up for the black, which he clinched easily
to seal the victory.
For Higgins it was great battle and winning the World Championship, for the fourth time, at the Crucible Theatre was an unbelievable moment.
