John Hopkins aims to earn a seat in a MotoGP team in the 2012 season – MotoGP news
John Hopkins has revealed his desire to get a seat in the MotoGP team in the upcoming 2012 season.
Currently, he is leading the British Superbike Championship.
John Hopkins shared his views with Crash.net and said, “I took the best option to jump-start my career. It was like coming home to a second family. It's been a huge learning curve. The tracks, the competition... I've done MotoGP, AMA and some World Superbike
races, but I've never had fiercer competition while racing than in BSB.”
The American rider has served a time period from 2002-2008 in the MotoGP class. Hopper started as a rider for Red Bull Yamaha team, then rode for Rizla Suzuki and ended his career with the Kawasaki factory team.
During his racing era with Suzuki factory team, he scored four podium places and finished the 2007 season in fourth place.
While coming to Kawasaki, he endured a series of severe injuries and questioned his career in the class. Kawasaki team suddenly dropped out of the MotoGP and it left Hopkins with no option to continue. During the 2008 season, he also faced a downfall in
his career while trying to recover from injuries.
Hopper further added, “I knew the [Showdown] points' system would favour me because my main aim was to stay in the top six and learn the new tracks, but we didn't expect to win so early and we've stayed where we wanted to be.”
Hopper added that his final goal is to take a seat in the MotoGP class. The Californian rider is determined to achieve his aim.
After his downfall in the racing career, he thought of no return point, but the Rizla Suzuki team manager Paul Denning helped him to come out of the stress.
Denning offered a contract to Hopkins for his Samsung Crescent Suzuki team running in the British Superbike Series. Shortly in the second round of the BSB 2011 season, Hopper took a victory and sustained the lead in the championship.
