John Hopkins confirmed with Crescent Suzuki team in World Superbike Championship – WSBK news
British Superbike Championship rider, John Hopkins has been signed in by Crescent Suzuki team for the 2012 World Superbike Championship, along with Leon Camier.
The Californian rider made his comeback in the motorcycle racing with Crescent Suzuki team in BSB championship. Meanwhile he also attended couple of races in other categories such as MotoGP and WSBK.
Hopkins said, “I am really happy to be joining up with the Crescent guys again, we had a great year in British Superbike and I’m sure we can continue that in WSB. I wanted to get back into world championship racing and this is a natural progression from
last year.”
While competing in the WSBK championship he will be visiting track that he has raced in past. His track experience from past will be helping him the 2012 WSBK season.
Hopkins will be carrying number 21 during his WSBK maiden season. Previously the number was carried by Troy Bayliss.
2011 BSB runner up added, “I know it’s going to be a big step, but with some big technical advances and Yoshimura on board I’m sure the bike will be fully competitive. It will be great to work with Lez Pearson again, as we built up a strong relationship
and his understanding of the way the bike works will be invaluable next year.”
He is delighted to be teamed up with Camier, who has been already racing in WBSK. The Brit completed his 2011 season in seventh place while riding Aprilia machine.
Hopkins feels that Camier will be a tough teammate as well as a contender to beat. It will also help him to improve his pace during the season.
Former MotoGP rider paid his grace to the team officials Paul Denning, Martyn and Jack that made this deal materialise.
He anxiously waits to hit the track with WSBK Suzuki machine and get started with the 2012 campaign. He plans to take a seat in MotoGP championship after making a steady progress.
Hopkins feels that the season will not be easy to compete but he has full confidence to take the WSBK title for 2012. He is confident to make his mark in the championship.
