John Hopkins focused to win BSB title after crashing at MotoGP Brno round – MotoGP news
Rizla Suzuki’s wild card rider John ‘Hopper’ Hopkins aims to win 2011 British Superbike Championship after missing out on the MotoGP Brno round.
Hopkins missed his last chance to race in the MotoGP event this season.
Samsung Crescent Suzuki team’s BSB rider John Hopkins was given a wild card entry by Rizla Suzuki for the MotoGP event at Brno. Unfortunately, he crashed out during a practice session and missed the Czech GP due to fractured fingers on right hand. The American
rider broke three fingers on his right hand.
Hopkins said, “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t even more determined to go out with extra motivation now to win the championship just to make up for being an idiot in Brno. The best way I can repay Suzuki from this stage forward is to bring them the championship.”
Hopper claimed after missing the race day at Brno that he has gained more confidence to compete with his full commitment in the British Superbike Championship. After the crash he feels that the best way to charm his Suzuki team to regain their admiration
is to win the 2011 BSB title.
Earlier in the season, John Hopkins was called in by the Rizla Suzuki team to ride in place for the injured Alvaro Bautista during the Jerez round. The Spaniard was sidelined due to a fractured left femur he sustained at Qatar.
Hopper said, “More than anything, I wanted to prove that Suzuki has an amazing bike. I strongly believe Suzuki has a really good package and it would be a huge waste if they weren't to carry on in MotoGP. The bike they have right now is really good and I
just wanted to get a result they deserved.”
After crashing at Brno, Hopkins flew back to his home at California and underwent a surgery to fix the split fracture on his right hand knuckle.
The American rider expressed his annoyance after the crash and regretted not being able to reveal the true potential of the Suzuki GSV-R.
At the moment, Suzuki have not unveiled their plan about the 2012 MotoGP season. However, the Japanese giant automobile manufacturer will remain on the gird but with its 800cc prototype.
