John Huh flying high in his rookie year on the PGA Tour – Golf News
The PGA Tour players have appreciated the progress made by the Korean-American John Huh, who recently registered a win in the Mayakoba Golf Classic after defeating the veteran Robert Allenby on the eighth extra hole in the playoffs.
Huh turned professional in 2008, and started playing on the Korean Tour. His first professional victory came in the Shinhan Donghae Open.
Later, he also joined the OneAsia Tour and played several tournaments in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, he appeared in the qualifying school and finished 27th to successfully earn the PGA Tour card for the 2012 season.
During the last week of January, 2012, he appeared in the Farmers Insurance Open, which was his second start on the Tour.
In the event, he shared the sixth spot on the leaderboard, giving fans a glimpse of his capabilities to contend against senior players on the Tour.
In the Waste Management Phoenix Open, he tied for the 12th position, followed by T35 in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
After making four appearances, he became used to playing against the best players on the Tour and entered the field of the Mayakoba Golf Classic with a confident frame of mind.
As a result, he came out victorious in the fifth event of his career. At one stage, he became the hottest subject in the media, as speculations were being made that he may become a golfing superstar in the future.
While playing the Valero Texas Open last week, he once again proved his mettle with a strong comeback, following his nine-over par score on the first eight holes of the tournament.
According to Huh, he was about to withdraw from the event, following his worsening performance in the early stage of the event. However, he decided not to take that decision and kept on moving.
“I was actually going to withdraw, but I kept telling myself, 'Don't give up, you got a lot of golf left,'” he said. “And here I am”.
Later, he managed to post a 16-under par score on the rest of the 64 holes, which took him to the second position on the leaderboard.
He is currently scheduled to participate in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, slated to start from April 26, 2012.
