John Isner changes his coach – Tennis News
USA’S highest ranked male tennis player, John Isner, has parted ways with his coach of three years, Craig Boynton; and now he has hired the services of Monica Seles’ former coach Mike Sell.
Isner rose from a little known player on the ATP World Tour to the top 10 players under the coaching of Boynton. The American star paid credit to his former coach, acknowledging that he learned a lot due to the latter’s teachings.
The tall heighted player said that despite all those facts, he felt a need to change his coach. Though, Isner said that he and Boynton would remain good friends and the number one American tennis contender would always consider
his former coach for help in the future.
Isner stated all this in an email he sent to the New York Times. The American said, “I had a great run with Craig, learned a lot and felt like I improved every year. I just felt like it was time for a different voice. CB and I
will remain great friends and he will always be someone I can go to for help or advice.”
The 27-year-old had the best season of his career in 2012. Isner stunned the top two ranked players with in a gap of one month. The American star defeated one of the greatest players of all time, Federer, in straight sets 4-6,
6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2 in his country’s second round Davis Cup, World Group tie in February. The right-hander then surprised the then world number one, Novak Djokovic, in three sets 7-6(7), 3-6, 7-6(5) in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in March.
Isner is taking part in an exhibition event, the Miami Tennis Cup, in his home country these days. The American flag bearer defeated former world number one, Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero, on Friday.
Talking to the reporters after that match, Isner said, "It probably wasn't the best match as I know he hasn't played in forever and I'm just getting going again. The best way to prepare yourself for a new year is to get out there
and play a match like that. I know there wasn't much riding on the match, but it had that match feel that you can't emulate in practice."
Isner captured two tour level titles in this season. He toppled former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, to win Hall of Fame Tennis Championships and upset Tomas Berdych to grab Winston-Salem Open.
