John Isner hammers Igor Kunitsyn in second round brawl – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
John Isner, American world No.25, played his second round match of BNP Paribas Masters 2011 at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Wednesday, 9th of November against Russian world No.68, Igor Kunitsyn,
beating him down in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, in an hour and 10 minutes indoor hard court match to qualify into the third round of the event.
Playing for the second time head-to-head, Isner advantaged due to his extraordinary form, height and lastly, his rankings. Anyhow, the two stepped into the blue circuit and warmed up followed by the match toss.
Winning the service toss, Kunitsyn ignited the match serving out the first game and his opening serve to roll down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the Russian, Isner mustered away his first serve, game two, evening up the scores
at 1-1.
Continuing with his second service game of the set, world No.68 pulled of a winner, however, the 26-year-old giant kept on the veteran’s tail winning away game four, 2-2. With the two winning a game each next, the two levelled
up again at 3-3 before the American took charge.
Breaking Kunitsyn in game seven, 4-3, Isner pulled through second back-to-back win, game eight, to lead the set, 5-3. With one more win required to finish off the set, the 26-year-old world No.25, captivated one of the last two
games winning the set, 6-4.
Moving onto set two, Kunitsyn once again took the opening serve and initiated the scoring, 1-0. However, Isner had hi momentum flowing as he served out game two, 1-1, levelling the scores and breaking the Russian in game three
to lead the set, 2-1.
Breaking back right away, Kunitsyn levelled up the scores and served his third service game to lead the table, 3-2. Levelling up the scores, Isner followed with a winner, game six, 3-3, before he struck again. Breaking the veteran
in game seven, 4-3, Isner took the lead extending it further as he bagged game eight on his serve, 5-3.
with a similar situation as the first set, Isner pulled through one out of the last two games, finishing off with the same score as the opening set, 6-4, and finishing off the match in straight sets to move onto the next stage
of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
Isner now moves on to the third round of BNP Paribas Masters 2011 to play against Spanish World No.21, Feliciano Lopez as the two clash out for the quarter-final seat on Thursday, 10th of November.
