John Isner is grief-stricken by his first round exit at Wimbledon – Tennis News
American number one, John Isner, who was seeded 11th in the Wimbledon Championships, was dumped in the opening round by the Colombian tennis professional, Alejandro Falla, featuring an epic five-setter. Final scores
were 6-4, 6-7(7), 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-5.
Isner was extremely embarrassed and apologised the American fans to have not provided them with a long tour of London. He mentioned, “Lately it's happening quite a lot, [where] I get out there in the match and I'm just so clouded.
I just can't seem to figure things out. I'm my own worst enemy out there. It's all mental for me, and it's pretty poor on my part.”
The American tennis ace has been pretty dismal with his performances since the end of US Men’s Clay Court Championship in April. He has just managed to win three games out of eight played and hasn’t been able to win two matches
in a row since the final in Houston. He missed out on the grass court warm-up at All England Club, earlier this month. He wanted to focus on his game and have ample time to remove errors from his game style.
Isner further added, “I've got to get back to the drawing board and just sort of let things go and just try to play out there. It's just like I want to win so much that I just I lose control and I lose focus on the process.”
A season that witnessed a terrific start with series of wins over supreme ranked players is coming to a halt, apparently. He stunned the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-final of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian
Wells. It was his first ever ATP 1000 Masters final appearance that helped him grow several places in the world rankings.
He broke into the Top-10 players of the world and dismissed the injury-prone, Mardy Fish, as the number one American player. He has dropped out of the Top-10 list; however, he is just one step away from making it back to the ten
esteemed players in the world of tennis. He had an opportunity at Wimbledon to do that but failed to accomplish any point from this tournament that will further damage his position in the rankings.
Falla had lost the previous two meetings to Isner; however, he was fuming in with confidence to register an upset and he did this time around. Isner needs to buckle up and reinstate his authority by becoming a strong force. He
needs to win matches.
