John Isner mesmerizes David Ferrer in quarter-final battle – BNP Paribas Open 2011
John Isner, American world No.25, amazed his quarter-final rival of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, David Ferrer, ranked world No.5, beating him down in a 3 set brawl ending it up 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in an hour and 46 minutes indoor hard
circuit match at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France on Friday, 11th of November.
Commencing with the fixture, the two walked out on the blue court following with the toss and the warm up. Isner, winning the service toss, lighted up the match serving out the opening game of the set. Ferrer, following the American
world No.25, bagged his opening serve, game two, evening up the scores at 1-1.
Continuing with his serve, American 26-year-old pushed over another winner, game three, 2-1, before he broke the higher ranked Spaniard in game four, 3-1, to take the lead in the set. Serving out game five next, Isner commanded
the set with a comfortable three games lead and was now left with two more games to bag the sets.
Cutting down the lead Ferrer pulled off a winner, however was unable to break back any soon. The 26-year-old followed with winning game seven, 5-2, and ended the set bagging game nine, 6-3, stunning the Spaniard in the opener set.
Continuing with set two, Ferrer launched up with a triple game point winner to open up the set, 1-0, followed by the American levelling up right away. Ferrer this time gave less room to the American giant. Winning a game each next
the two levelled up at 2-2 before the Spaniard took his revenge.
Serving out game five, Ferrer broke the world No.25 extending his lead from 3-2 to 4-2 and stood to serve next. Serving out game seven, world No.5 added another winner to his lead to make it 5-2. Isner followed with a winner, however,
was unable to break back and eventually lost.
Ferrer, serving out the last game, game nine, 6-3, bagged the second set and levelled up the match scores to 1-1. With the decider on its way, Isner went for the starting game, serving out and rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0.
Ferrer followed with an amazing triple game point winner, 1-1, levelling up the scores.
Battling hard, the two stormed out winners of respective serves and evened up at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before the tables turned. Isner, serving out game seven, 4-3, broke the higher ranked Spaniard, game eight, to lead the set 5-3.
After a long time, Ferrer was going to be beaten by a lower ranked player. Serving out the last game, game nine, 6-3, Isner finally ended the Spaniards winning run beating him down in a tough three set battle.
Through into the semis, Isner will now play world No. 8 and Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as they clash out for the final round seat of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
