John Isner outclasses Karol Beck in the opening round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
World number 46, John Isner of the United States, had a magnificent start to the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, as he defeated his opening round opponent, Karol Beck of Slovakia to reach the next round of the tournament
on Tuesday.
Seeded at number one in the tournament, Isner faced no real difficulty in wrapping up the contest in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, taking just one hour and four minutes of play to eject Beck from the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 250 event with the utmost ease.
Well known for his big serve, Isner was absolutely devastating in the matchup and outplayed his bleak opponent in every segment of the game. The American delivered 65 per cent of his first serve on target, while cracking in 10
thudding aces and reeled off 26 out of 33 first serve points to come out as the winner in the end.
Isner’s victory was assisted by Beck’s plenty of unforced errors in the match, as the Slovak coughed 10 double faults while spraying errant strokes all over the court. Beck appeared rusty right from the start of the match and proved
no match for the hard-hitting Isner. His below par serve reached merely 41 per cent accuracy in the match and his bleak baseline defence allowed Isner to fire a number of forceful winners down the line.
The top seed seeded American was off to a flyer in the opening set, breaking his rival early to get hold of the contest. Isner kept exerting pressure upon Beck right from the beginning and made him submit the opener after about
half an hour’s play. The American’s dominance continued in its full flow in the following set as well, blowing away the unseeded Slovak from the competition in the second set.
Only one serve break from the racquet of Isner proved sufficient for him to wrap up the first set at 6-3, bagging 15 out of 19 points and belting seven aces. His intensity rose even higher in the second set, when he stung two out
of four serve breaks to wrap up victory in the most authoritative manner at 6-2 to advance to the next round draws of the tournament.
Up next for the top seed in the second round is the unseeded French competitor, Arnaud Clement, who stood victorious against Ryan Harrison of America in the opening round of Campbell’s Halll of Fame Tennis Championships.
