John Kears feels honoured after standing ovation from Wakefield - Rugby League News
John Kear, the outgoing coach of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, felt honoured by his outfit as they all rose to give him respect and a standing ovation after their 26-14 win over Bradford Bulls on Friday, September 9.
This win over Bradford is dear to Wildcats' coach, as it has carved out a perfect exit from his five and a half years' stint at the club. With this outcome, Wakefield also kept them from earning the wooden spoon status which was one of the goals of the club
at this stage.
Crusaders on the other hand have earned their second wooden spoon in three years. This was nonetheless even more embarrassing for the franchise who were also hoping for a less humiliating exit from the Super League palette. Crusaders exit was rightly justified
as they had already plugged their franchise out of the Super League licensing process because of the poor financial health of the club.
However, falling out of super league games until 2014 could not worsen it for them further, with their recent defeat against Wigan Warriors, which was also staged yesterday.
However, the situation at Wakefield was exact opposite to Crusaders’. Kear could hope for a better exit and was overwhelmed to find out that his team had given a well-rounded performance during this crucial fixture of the super league games.
While speaking about his team, who paid homage to their departing coach by standing up for him, Kear added, "They really did stand up and it means a lot to me. I think it showed an element of respect from the players for the coaching staff when they go out
there and play as they played. They were magnificent tonight and I'm absolutely rapt."
Mick Potter, the coach of Bradford Bulls added, "Injuries meant we lost our rotation and we just couldn't handle the adversity. The other team was up for the game, as we were, but we were a bit too frivolous with the ball and we came up with some very poor
errors.”
