John Key suggests knighthood for Richie McCaw if he leads All Blacks to RWC victory
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, has suggested a knighthood for All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw if he leads his side to lift the 2011 Rugby World Cup title. John Key expressed these thoughts while talking to media on August 9.
New Zealand is hosting this years Rugby World Cup starting on September 9, and is hopeful to repeat history. New Zealand has won just one Webb Ellis Trophy since the launching of global show and that was in 1987, when the country co-hosted the event with
Australia.
The All Blacks have always remained a top team on paper but somehow or the other they have manged to be knocked out from the playoff stages in each RWC after 1987. The All Blacks are currently placed on top of the International Rugby Board ranking and all
that is required is on field performance.
New Zealand has got depth in their squad in the presence of skipper Richie McCaw, Ma’a Nonu, Brad Thorn, Kieran Read and Dan Carter. They have got some of the best players in their forward and defence packs. Furthermore, the inclusion of Sonny Bill Williams
in the All Blacks side has made the side very threatening.
The All Blacks have started of their test season in a great fashiuon and have secured 100 percent results in the last three outgoings. They thumped Fiji in their season opener test on July 22 and then battled past the Springboks and Wallabies in its opening
games of the Tri-Nations Cup 2011. The All Blacks stunning win over the Wallabies on August 6 has alarmed other sides about their preparations for RWC 2011.
John Key, who takes a keen interest in New Zealand Rugby, has urged his side to lift the crown. Talking to the media he said that, “That team is a great team, personally I think they're going to win. I think McCaw's a great captain. I think at home with
a huge amount of support and massive amount of bench strength and a team that's very, very focussed, I think we're going to get there.”
He hoped that two best sides of the world All Blacks and Wallabies will qualify for the final of this year’s showpiece.
